Accessibility

  • There are two bigger parking areas where you can park for 2 Euros
  • The second car park has a ticket shop, restaurant and toilets
  • Entrance fee to the castle for an adult is 12 Euros
  • Tickets can be purchased at the ticket shop in the car park or at the castle gate
  • There is a shuttle that runs from the car park to the gate of the castle which costs around 4 Euros per adult
  • Alternatively there is a track to walk from the car park to the castle
  • There are restaurants inside the castle to have coffee, beer, lunch or snacks
  • The tour inside the castle is highly recommended which is inclusive for the entrance ticket
  • There is a great museum as well

History

  • Probably the most beautiful castle in Baden-Wüttenberg which is the home for the Hohenzollern dynasty
  • The origin of the Hohenzollern dynasty is in Baden-Wüttenberg as the counts of the Zollern county of the Holy Roman Empire
  • Later the family is branched into the Swabian branch, Franconian branch, Prussian branch and Romanian branch  
  • The Prussian branch establish the Kingdom of Prussia (1701 by King Fredrick I) and later builds the Prussian Empire (1861 by Emperer William I)
  • The genius of kings, Fredrick the Great is a Hohenzollern from the Prussian branch.
