History:

  • In the 12th century, the castle was belonged to a noble family who had a closer relationship with the Staufer nobility. (Staufers were the heirs of the Counts of Calw to whom the region belonged. They were also Margraves of Baden and the Counts of "Löwenstein")
  • The noble family lived in Lichtenberg castle were not ministers, however they were a noble family with political powers due to their closer relationships with the Emperors and Kings. 
    • Sigibodo from Lichtenberg was the secretary of Kind Albrecht
    • Albercht Hummel from Lichtenberg was the Chancellor of the Emperor Ludwig of Baveria
  • In the 14th century, the Lichtenbergers sold their castle to House of Württemberg. 
  • Count Ebrhard from Wüttemberg gave the castle and the governing power of Großbotwar to Dietrich from Weiler
  • From then on, the castle was owned by the Weiler noble family.
