Castle was build by the nobel family Neuffen and later the castle was owned by lords of Weinberg.
Then the castle was sold to Counts of Wüttenberg (House of Wüttenberg) in the 14th century.
The infamous Duke Ulrich of Wüttenberg later fortified the castle for his militory purposes and also used as a prison to torture and hold political prisoners with high ranks
During the war between Duke Ulrich of Wüttenberg and the Swabian League, the castle surrendered itself to the Swabian League.
Again during the Thirty years war in the 17th century, the castle surrendered itself into the Imperial Army.
